Golf News - Further Delay to Donald’s Return

Englishman Luke Donald has been force to withdraw from the Scottish Open this week as an enduring wrist injury continues to keep him from competition. This move dims hopes for his participation in the approaching Open at Royal Birkdale on July 17. Donald has not played since the damage was sustained at the US Open on June 15 at Torrey Pines.

Despite Donald having slipped down to 39th place in the standings of the Ryder Cup chiefly because of his absence, Donald insists the time he is taking in omitting the Scottish Open from his schedule, is purely precautionary. It has been announced that he is very close to competition fitness, though has opted for a further week of rest to ensure strength at the British Open.

Before his early departure from the event, after 14 holes of the final round at the US Open, Donald had been in joint 23rd position. Medics took the decision along with Donaldson that he should stop play after what he described as a pop in his left wrist.
