The tournament will take place with the Polish Golf union and will be played at the Toya Golf and Country club in Wroclaw on the 18-19th August 2009. The best junior golfers will participate in the tournament. There will be both boys and girls in the tournament and it will be held over 36 holes for a chance to gain an invite to the Faldo series grand final in Brazil. The tournament is hosted by the six time major winner himself and is a prestigious tournament to play in.
The tournament is supported by the R&A and the Faldo series Poland Championship is the latest addition to the initiatives increasing number of tournaments outside the UK. The Faldo series is taking the world by storm for junior golf with over 20 countries worldwide spread across three continents. The tournament is creating huge opportunities for 4,000 golfers on an annual basis. The tournaments give educational seminars on every aspect of the sport.
Faldo commented: “By bringing the Faldo Series to Poland next year we hope that we can help to make a difference in what is not necessarily a traditional golfing region. There is certainly a great deal of potential in the country and I believe that with the support of golfing bodies like The R&A and the European Tour, Poland is exactly the kind of country that can benefit most from an initiative like ours.”
Piotr Mondalski, President of the Polish Golf Union added: “We are very excited to be a part of creating the Faldo Series Poland Championship. This event will mean that Polish golfers are just one tournament away from the Faldo Series Grand Final in Brazil, at which our best young players will have an opportunity to test themselves against their peers from across the world. I am sure this is going to help our Union’s most important task in Poland: getting as many young people as possible to take up and excel at golf. Golf is a growing sport in Poland and this cooperation is creating a valuable new opening for our young players.”
